I've taken many reference photographs for my watercolor paintings-- here are a few.

Part of my process for watercolors.

First step is composing the best design.

I consider myself a studio painter. I enjoy drawing from life, photographs, and sometimes -- I will do a quick plein air painting for my reference work.  Creating a design from two or three photos is not uncommon for many of my watercolors.  After sketching out the design, including values and contrast, then I transfer the image to watercolor paper. I love the transparency of watercolor painting.
